History Teacher: Mr Propp
The ethos for teaching History at Cademuir is based upon making history an accessible, interesting and positive learning experience for all pupils. This broad and general aim is to be achieved through local study, visiting sites of local interest and gaining a hands-on experience that supplements and enhances classroom study.
The department perceives history as an opportunity to open the door to the past, enabling pupils to gain an experience of how people and societies have existed and developed throughout time. This is considered by the department to be of the utmost importance, giving pupils a deeper understanding of present day events in the social, political and cultural worlds.
As Cademuir is an international school, the department’s focus extends outside of Scotland and the United Kingdom taking in Europe and selected countries throughout the world. This allows pupils to gain knowledge that enables them to compare and study how societies have developed differently, how people overcame problems in various ways and how many of the stereotypical images that we perceive in history can prove to be false or misleading.
