It is the aim of the English Department to: 

Develop an understanding of the English language so that pupils can communicate with each other and their teachers in the first instance; to build on this knowledge to enable them to further their strengths; to foster an enjoyment and a high level of competence in both language and literature so that they may participate fully in the courses offered and succeed in SQA or EFL examinations at whatever level is considered appropriate. The department is always searching for new ideas and seeking to keep abreast of developments. The underlying aim must be to prepare pupils for later opportunities in adult life.
