Current Classes
The Groups for the current session are as follows and relate to ability rather than age:
1 Higher Grade, Year 2 (H2)
Pupils are completing studies on Higher or Advanced Higher subjects prior to tertiary
education. It equates approximately to S6 in the Scottish system.
2 Higher Grade, Year 1 (H1)
Pupils in this group are starting Higher courses and/or completing Intermediate level work . It would equate to S5 in the Scottish system.
3 Standard Grade, Year 2 (SG3)
In this group, most pupils will be sitting Standard Grade and Intermediate level examinations within the year. It equates in some respect to S4 in the Scottish system but there may be pupils sitting some Higher examinations in some subjects or sitting Standard Grade examinations in the following year in others.
4 Standard Grade, Year 1 (SG2)
In this group, most pupils will be sitting Standard Grade examinations in the following year, but the same provisos apply as above. It is roughly equivalent to S3.
5 Introductory Year 2 (SG1)
The pupils in this group will be completing the introductory course work but may also be starting some Standard Grade coursework. The closest equivalent to the Scottish system would be S1 to S2.
6 Transition (TR)
Pupils in this group will be working on introductory courses that include some elements of the Scottish 5-14 syllabus. This group is more or less equivalent to P7, the top Primary class in Scottish schools, but may range between P6 and S1 equivalent levels.
